What is Dental Sedation?
Dental sedation refers to techniques used to calm anxious patients during a dental procedure or to make patients more comfortable during long procedures. At Ottawa Dentistry, we offer patients Nitrous Oxide.
Nitrous Oxide Sedation
Commonly referred to as 'laughing gas,' nitrous oxide is a chemical compound that has a sedative effect when inhaled through a mask.
The medication calms patients while they remain awake and able to communicate. It also tends to lessen anxiety, increase pain threshold, reduce gag reflex and make time pass more quickly.
Throughout your procedure, your dentist will be in control of the amount of sedation you receive. The gas will wear off quickly at the end of your appointment, with little to no aftereffects.
